McKayla Maroney is a former American artistic gymnast, who had won a gold medal with the U.S. Olympics gymnastics team and a silver medal for the vault in the year 2012 Summer Olympics. Maroney was born in California, the United States on December 9, 1995, and of Irish-Catholic ethnicity. Her father’s name was Mike and her mother’s name was Erin Maroney. Her father was a quarterback at Purdue University, and her mom was in figure skating and secondary school sports.

In the year 2012, after competing at the Olympic Trials in San Jose, Maroney was chosen to the U.S. Olympic women’s gymnastics team. In July 2012, she has been featured on the cover of Sports magazine named Illustrated, along with the other U.S. women’s team, including AlyRaisman, Jordyn Wieber, Gabrielle Douglas, and Kyla Ross. This was the first time when the entire Olympic team had ever graced the cover.
In the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, Maroney and her teammates bagged the gymnastics team gold medal. She was the first for the American women’s gymnastics team since the year 1996.
