Sophie Loren is an Italian film actress and singer. She was born on 20th September 1934. Her father Riccardo Scicolone never married her mother RomildaVillani. She was raised by her mother in the slums of Pozzuoli and had to face a lot of difficulties while growing up. When she was 14 years old she took part in a beauty contest and was one among the finalist. This was just the starting phase of Sophie’s successful life. During her beauty contest, film producer Carlo Ponti, who was 22 years older than Sophie, was mesmerized by her beauty and decided to marry her.
They got married in 1966. Carlo supported Sophie in building her career. Sophie played lead roles in Italian features such as La Favorita and Aida. In 1957 she appeared in movies like Boy on a Dolphin (1957), Legend of the Lost (1957), and The Pride and the Passion (1957). During her good going career, she was proposed by one of her co-star Cary Grant and she rejected the proposal.

For her movie Two Women Sophie was awarded Academy Award for Best Actress. After all of this Sophie decided to give her most of the time to sons Carlo Jr. and Eduardo. She decided to do some other business than movies. In 1991 Sophie won awards like Honorary Academy Award. She was back to movies again in 1994. She did movies like Grumpier Old Men, Soleil, Between Strangers and Lives of the Saints. Her husband Carlo Ponti died at age 94. Sophie nowadays lives in Switzerland.
