Born as Amanda Peet on January 11, 1972, she is an American actress. Peet was born in New York City, to a social worker named Penny and Charles Peet Jr. who is a corporate lawyer. Her father is a Quaker whereas her mother is of Jewish origins. Peet’s maternal great-grandfathers were Samuel Levy, a lawyer, businessman and public official, who worked as Manhattan Borough President, and Samuel Roxy Rothafel a theatrical impressio and entrepreneur.

At the age of seven, Peet moved with her family to London, and after staying there for four years, they returned to New York. Peet grew up in the Quaker tradition, and attended the Friends Seminary, a Quaker school. She attended the Columbia University and graduated with a degree in American history. While in college, she gave acting auditions with teacher Uta Hagen and after attending Hagen’s class, she decided to pursue acting as a career. During the four years she spent studying with Hagen, Peet made an appearance in an off-Broadway revival of Clifford Odets’s Awaken and Sing with Stephen Lang.

After she studied at Columbia University, Peet started her acting career with minor roles on the small screen, and debuted in films with Animal Room (1995). Her starring role in a comedy The Whole Nine Yards (2000), made her extremely popular and she has since worked in a wide range of films such as Something’s Gotta Give (2003), Identity (2003), Syriana (2005), The X-Files: I Want To Believe (2008), 2012 (2009), and The Way, Way Back (2013).
