Born as Kimberly Alexis Bledel on September 16, 1981 in Houston Texas, she is an American actress and model. Her father was born and raised in Argentina and was of Danish and distant German descent. Her mother Nanette was born in Phoenix, Arizona and had Scottish and English ancestry. However, she was raised in Mexico city. About the Latin American upbringing of her parents, Bledel stated: “It’s the only culture my mom knows from life, and my father as well, and they made the decision to raise their children within the context they had been raised in.”
Bledel was raised in a Spanish-speaking home and she learned English only after she started school. She considers herself to be a Latina.
Bledel attended the Catholic St. Agnes Academy in Houston and also went to Baptist and Lutheran schools. Her mother motivated her to take up community theater so that she could get rid of her shyness. As a child, Bledel made appearances in the local productions of Our Town and The Wizard of Oz. She was discovered by a scout at a local shopping mall and hired as a fashion model.
