Catherine Joy Perry, born on March 24th, 1985, is an American professional wrestler, actress, dancer, model, professional wrestling manager, and singer. She currently works for WWE, where she performs under the ring name Lana on the SmackDown brand.
Lana was born in Gainesville, Florida to parents of Portuguese and Venezuelan descent. she is the eldest child.
She spent most of her childhood in the Latvian SSR, where her father worked as a Christian missionary, remaining in Latvia after it restored its independence from the Soviet Union in August 21, 1991. She always wanted to become a ballet dancer like her mother and attended the Riga Choreography School (the ballet school of the Latvian National Opera) and began dancing with the Latvian National Ballet at the age of 14.
Lana returned to the United States when she was 17 and initially lived in New York City, where she danced at the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Ballet Hispanico, Broadway Dance Center, and the Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance. She later enrolled in Florida State University (FSU) in Tallahassee, Florida, studying dance and acting.
In college, she attended Florida State football games with several other students, cheering while dressed as “cowgirls”. The students were known as the Florida State Cowgirls. During a game between the Florida State Seminoles and the Miami Hurricanes that aired on ABC network in September 2005, Musburger stated that “1,500 red-blooded Americans just decided to apply to Florida State”.
She started appearing in photoshoots in publications such as the RIDGID Tool Calendar and worked as a spokesmodel for the energy drinks Matrix and Red Bull. When she graduated from FSU, she moved to Los Angeles, California with the aim of working in show business. She first dated actor and former football player Isaiah Mustafa. Lana married fellow WWE wrestler Miroslav Barnyashev, who is known by his ring name Rusev, on July 29, 2016.
